Emily Lipari Anchors NCAA Leading DMR Victory at the Armory

Emily Lipari ran a 4:34 1600-meter anchor tonight at the Armory Collegiate Invitational at the Armory, to finish off a 10:56.74 NCAA-leading DMR victory for the Villanova women. Thanks to a great 800 leg by Nicky Akande to close the gap, Lipari took the baton in second place, but was able to open up a 8.19 second gap over second-place Arkansas at the tape. In other results of note from Friday action, (1) Sam Ellison won the 500 meters in 1:01.31, the NCAA #2 time so far this season; (2) Rob Denault ran 2:24.61 to finish second in the 1000 meters, with an NCAA top-15 time in that event; (3) Alex Wasik cleared 4.00 meters in the pole vault, a new PR; and (4) Stephanie Schappert ran a very nice 2:45.65 over 1000 meters, putting her at NCAA #7 in the event, pending the results of other weekend action. Finally, (5) Villanova signee Ben Malone (NJ) won the prep 1000 meters in 2:25.82 to take over the US prep lead at that distance. Overall, a great start to the weekend.
