Final fields set for adidas Dream 100m and Dream Mile

NEW YORK CITY (June 5, 2012)—Maddie Meyers, a senior from Seattle, Wash., and the 2010 adidas Dream Mile Champion, will return to Icahn Stadium to compete in the event for the third consecutive year at the adidas Grand Prix, organizers have announced.
Meyers, ranked #4 in the U.S. at 3000 meters, rounds out the field for the Girls’ Dream Mile, while the addition of Ahmed Bile to the Boys’ Dream Mile and sprinters Tremayne Acy and Trae Armstrong to the Boys’ Dream 100 complete those fields.
In its eighth year as one of the premier track-and-field events in the world, the adidas Grand Prix, at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, will feature athletes from 42 countries and 72 Olympic or World Championships medalists, 40 of whom are Olympic gold medalists and/or World Champions. The Dream fields include athletes currently ranked #1 on the U.S. high school list in 11 events. Headlining the Boys’ Dream 100 are the athletes with the five top legal times in the country this year, while the Girls’ Dream 100 features athletes who own eight of the top 10 times for 2012. In the Boys’ Dream Mile, athletes represent the five fastest Mile times in the country; in the Girls’ Dream Mile, the athletes bring seven of the fastest eight 1600-meter marks.
Bile, a senior from Annandale, Va., is a seven-time Virginia 3A State Champion, ranked #10 in the U.S. at 1600 meters (4:08.29). He is the son of Abdi Bile, the 1987 World Champion at 1500 meters. Acy, a junior from DeSoto, Texas, has the #6 wind-aided time in the nation this year for 100 meters (10.26) as well as the #9 legal mark (10.41), and is a member of the 2012 Texas 5A State Champion 4x100-meter relay team. Armstrong, a senior from Glendale, Ariz., is #3 U.S. at 200 meters (20.74) and is an eight-time individual Division 1 State Champion at 100, 200 and 400 meters.
Fields for the Dream Mile and Dream 100 consist of invited top athletes and winners of three qualifying meets in the adidas Golden Stripes series, provided those athletes meet the qualifying times. The first meet, the adidas Meet of Champions, was held on March 24, followed by the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan., April 19-21 and the Golden South Classic in Orlando, Fla., on May 26. In addition to the opportunity to compete in a world-class international track event, athletes in the Dream Mile and Dream 100 will also have the chance to receive coaching from mile legend Jim Ryun.
With the addition of the four new athletes, the fields for Saturday’s Dream races are complete. The full fields are:
