Gerry O'Reilly, Villanova Olympian, Opens NASDAQ Market in NYC



Villanova track great Gerry O'Reilly, a Principal and Portfolio Manager at the Vanguard Group, helped open the NASDAQ market in New York on November 1st. O'Reilly, pictured above front and center in both photos, graduated from Villanova in 1987 and is ranked #3 on the all-time Villanova school records list at the mile (3:54.63) -- behind only Sydney Maree and fellow Irishman Eamonn Coghlan -- #4 at 3000 meters (7:51.65), and #5 at 1500 meters (3:37.40). He represented his native Ireland at the 1988 Olympic Games.

While at Villanova, O'Reilly was a six-time Big East Champion (1987: indoor 3000m, outdoor 1,500m; 1986: indoor 1,500m, indoor 3,000m, indoor DMR, outdoor 5,000m), a two-time IC4A outdoor champion (1986: 1,500m, 5,000m), and two-time IC4A indoor champion (1987: 3,000m, DMR). He ran on the school record setting DMR team that was timed in 9:21.02 on April 24, 1987. Credited with seven career sub-4:00 minute miles, O'Reilly was inducted into the Villanova University Hall of Fame as part of the Hall's class of 2009.

  1. wow, I met Gerry once at Haverfords indoor track back in the late 80's with Marcus O'Sullivan, coached by Tom Donnely. How time flies. He'll never remember me though, neither will Marcus who I think had a baby in tow.
